How Camelot notation works

Each key is represented by a number from 1 to 12 and a letter: A for minor and B for major. Moving to the same number keeps the key center stable. Moving one number clockwise or counterclockwise usually creates a smooth tonal step. Switching between A and B at the same number gives the relative major or minor key.

Same code

A track in 8A blends naturally with another 8A track when the energy and phrasing fit.

One step

8A to 7A or 9A is a familiar neighboring-key transition for a set.

Relative mode

8A to 8B changes minor to major while keeping the same number on the wheel.
